Lake Windermere is based at the foot of Bowness-on-Windermere. It’s just a 10-minute walk away from Hillthwaite or our reception team can arrange a return taxi for you. This picturesque Lake can be enjoyed from the land with a traditional holiday ice-cream or on board the Windermere Lake Cruises (a must do for any Lake District traveller). There is even the chance to charter your own boat to explore this 10.5 miles of breath-taking beauty.

Bowness invites you to explore the world of Beatrix Potter, sample the local produce, enjoy the shops and find your holiday gifts whilst you wander around this bustling tourist town.

Whether you are coming by car, train or coach your journey to the Lake District, and to Hillthwaite Hotel, is very easy.

By car: We are only 25 minutes from Junction 36 of M6 motorway and follow signs to Windermere. We have ample free onsite parking when you arrive.

By train: The West Coast London to Glasgow station is ‘Oxenholme The Lake District’ – 25 minutes drive from Hillthwaite.

London Euston is just 2 hours 40 minutes away, while Oxenholme is less than 2 hours from Glasgow & Edinburgh.

At Oxenholme trains connect to Windermere station, only 5 minutes from Hillthwaite.

Manchester Airport and Manchester Picaddilly have direct trains to Windermere throughout the day.

By coach: Buses stop at Windermere train station and taxis will bring you to the hotel. Or, if you prefer, we can arrange one to pick you up.
